Hope is not the thing with feathers
\nThat comes home to roost
\nWhen you need it most.<\/p>\n
Hope is an ugly thing
\nWith teeth and claws and
\nPatchy fur that\u2019s seen some shit.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s what thrives in the discards
\nAnd survives in the ugliest parts of our world,
\nAble to find a way to go on
\nWhen nothing else can even find a way in.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the gritty, nasty little carrier of such
\ndiseases as
\noptimism, persistence,
\nPerseverance and joy,
\nTransmissible as it drags its tail across
\nyour path
\nand
\nbites you in the ass.<\/p>\n
Hope is not some delicate, beautiful bird,
\nEmily.
\nIt\u2019s a lowly little sewer rat
\nThat snorts pesticides like they were
\nLines of coke and still
\nShows up on time to work the next day
\nLooking no worse for wear.<\/p>\n
